Easter Celebrations & The First Easter Egg

Easter is fast approaching now that spring is here. I love this time of year in California and this year, in particular, is spectacular because the much-needed downpour of rains has resulted in a beautiful display of flowers everywhere.

For me, Easter represents the message of renewing faith.

Some celebrate with Lent, denying themselves of something, the forty-day period before Easter. Some celebrate with Easter eggs, Easter Lilies, chocolate bunnies, and Easter baskets. However you choose to celebrate this spring holiday, have you ever wondered how on earth Easter eggs came into the picture? I sure have!

The Faberge jewelry firm was founded in 1842 in St. Petersburg, Imperial Russia, by Gustav Faberge. In 1855, Alexander III commissioned the first Imperial Easter Egg from Faberge. The egg all contained a special surprise; it was a gift for the Empress. The egg has a gold yolk which held a colored hen inside and a tiny diamond imperial crown with a tiny ruby egg that hanging from it.
